Happy 10th Birthday to WordPress

It was 10 years ago on this same day that the first public version of WordPress was launched. Since then, WordPress has been the leading Open Source CMS (Content Management System). Today, about 18% of the web is powered by the WordPress software. This includes the free hosted WordPress.com sites and the self-host software that is available at WordPress.org. Over the years, WordPress has emerged as the first option for many bloggers and web developers. An estimated 70 million sites use WordPress including CNN, The New York Times, Reuters and many other big names on the internet. Our blog ihunzai.com also uses WordPress platform and it has been our first and the best choice. At iHunzai.com, we wish a very Happy 10th Birthday to WordPress :)

Happy 10th Birthday to WordPress

WordPress was started by Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little. The company behind this awesome publishing software is Automattic. Many other developers and designers contribute to make WordPress more secure and reliable. Thousands of themes, plugins and custom frameworks have been developed for WordPress. It uses the famous PHP, MYSQL and Apache combination to give developers freedom over what they want and how they want to make the service available for the users.

No doubt, the biggest reason for the sustainability of WordPress is support of Open Source lovers. The first decade has been the pinnacle of evolution for WordPress. It will continue to grow over the coming decades.
